13.6. Balancing of wheels

On the car the balanced wheels are established. In use the car under the influence of various reasons balancing of wheels can be broken that is shown in emergence of vibration of a steering wheel.

The imbalance of wheels leads to the increased wear of details of steering, tires and suspension brackets of the car therefore at emergence of an imbalance it is necessary to carry out balancing of wheels anew. Vibration of a steering wheel from an imbalance of wheels is shown in the certain range of speeds and vanishes at decrease or increase in speed. Besides, balancing of wheels is necessary after installation of the new tire and after each repair of the tire.

The static imbalance of a wheel is shown that the weight of separate parts of a wheel concerning an axis has different weight. At the same time if to establish a wheel on freely rotating axis, then the wheel will turn in such a way that heavier site of a wheel will always be below. The wheel with a static imbalance at the movement of the car can jump up that will result in bystry wear of the shock-absorber.

The dynamic imbalance of a wheel is shown only at bystry rotation of a wheel. In the presence, heavier site of a wheel is located sideways rather average section of a wheel and at rotation of a wheel leads to its rocking that leads to the accelerated failure of the hug bearing and elements of a suspension bracket.

At disbalance or replacement of the tire the wheel needs to be balanced.

Maximum weight of a counterbalance: 60 g


Not to use more than two counterbalances on internal or outer side of a wheel.

If the full weight of a counterbalance exceeds 100 g, turn the tire on a disk and execute repeated balancing.

Carry out fastening of counterbalances reliably, for an exception of their movement on a rim rim.

For wheels with aluminum disks it is necessary to use special counterbalances.

Do not balance the wheels established on the car with the automatic transmission as its damage is possible.
